The Get Ready to Read! program is a national initiative with the goal to enhance early literacy skills of preschoolers. The site offers screening tools/checklists, activities to download, and online games.
iWriteWords (free): PreK - Kdg. Children learn to write numbers, letters (uppercase & lowercase), and words.
Build a Word ($1.99): PreK-1. Video Demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0L_ggnGxuM Shake up this "Word Builder" and watch letters float across the screen. Place letters in the outline provided and build a word one letter at a time. By pushing the letters of each word together, words will magically "morph" into WordFriends! DOG, DUCK, PIG, ANT, FROG, SHEEP, BUG, COW, CAT, and BEE come to live and engage children to spell and read. ABC Maze Lite (free): Kdg - 1st. Love this! Uses the iTouches unique features. Turn and manipulate the iTouch to move a ball across letters to create a word.
ABC Phonics (free): Preschool - kdg. Three games to practice letter recognition.
Spell (free): Kdg - 2nd. Place letters in the correct order to practice common spelling patterns.
eliasABC (free): PreK - Kdg. ABC flashcards state the letter and an object that begins with that phoneme.
FirstWords Sampler by Learning Touch (free): PreK - 1st. Move letters over shaded letters to create a word. The program states the letter name as you move the letters to make a word.
